I thought that I would start a new kind of post where I would compare drugstore foundations to help guide you to finding the best one for your skin type and complexion, for the best price.
I do believe that I have already done a post about the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation, where I didn't necessarily talk about it in a very positive light, but after having using makeup for a much longer time now, and discovering different techniques and what was best for my skin etc, I decided to try out this foundation once more.
Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation
I would definitely say that I have a love/hate relationship with this foundation, mainly because my skin will have good days where it will blend really nicely, but then i'll have days where the foundation makes me look really patchy and sticks to dry skin. My skin has gotten a lot better though as I have moisturised more and began to use a primer before applying any makeup.
I buy this product in the shade Ivory or 100 (I think), and I wouldn't really say that this is true to the name, because the foundation does give you a slight orangey or bronzed look, but with good blending this could definitely be looked over.
The foundation itself has decent coverage but it wouldn't cover blemishes or spots by itself, you would need a concealer to go over it, to properly cover them up.
I wouldn't suggest using this is you wanted an airbrushed or matte look, because the foundation makes your skin look quite dewy and fresh, rather than 100% perfected. But if you wanted a more natural kind of makeup look, especially if you like the "less is more" technique. However, the foundation does have some form of glitter or sparkles in it, that are probably meant to "wake up" your skin, if you don't want to look super shimmery - don't buy this.
This also means you may have to top up on powder throughout the day, if your skin gets shiny and oily.

The packaging of this foundation is actually really nice, as it's a glass bottle with a pump which makes the drug store foundation feel more high end and expensive. But the strange shape of the bottle actually reduces the amount of foundation you think you're purchasing, meaning the foundation is likely to run out faster.
Finally, the foundation costs £8.99, which is alright for a drugstore foundation, but not for the amount you get.
VS
MUA Skin Define Hydro Foundation
I recently purchased this foundation in the shade Ivory and so far I have been really loving it, I haven't so far found anything really wrong with this foundation; apart from a few minor things.
For example, after holding the tube of foundation up to the light, it was clearly visible that the container wasn't completely full of product, this disappointed me because it felt like I was paying for the entire product. But seeing at this foundation is only £2.00, I was willing to let this slide.
Secondly, I didn't particularly like the packaging of the product, even if this product is super cheap already, I personally felt like the packaging made it look tacky and unappealing. This was a reason why I was hesitant to purchase this in the first place.
This foundation has a pretty good coverage for it's price, it's actually quite similar to the Rimmel London foundation (mentioned above), as it's good coverage just not for completely covering spots and blemishes etc etc.
It does even out your skin really nicely though, for if your skin has different pigmentations; like mine. So it's nice and easy to quickly whip some of this on and leave the house.
I have found this foundation to be light rather than heavy and cakey on the skin, which is good if you want to look like your skin has been perfected, rather than completely airbrushed flawless.
This is meant to be a "Hydro Foundation", which i'm assuming means that it's meant to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day, so far I have found this to be true - so true in fact that I had to put on some more powder throughout the day. But to avoid this I would recommend using a setting spray.
VERDICT
I have come to the conclusion that the MUA Skin Define Hydro Foundation is better value for money, even if the packaging looks cheap and slightly tacky, compared to the Rimmel Foundation. It does the same job, maybe even more than that, for a much much much lower price.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has slightly dry yet a little bit oily skin, because this foundation doesn't dry out your skin throughout the day, as you'll probably have to even use a little bit of powder!!
~ I hope you found this helpful, and I think I'll continue doing posts like these every time I try a new foundation or makeup product ~
